Documentation is not an afterthought
The difference between a sample that converts and one that stalls in procurement is almost always documentation. We match every ingredient we source to the specific certification stack your market requires — and we deliver the paperwork your team needs to move fast.
Why certification depth matters for Indian botanicals
India has more GMP-certified botanical processing facilities than any other emerging market. Organic, Halal, Kosher, and ISO certifications are available at scale — across hundreds of producers. The challenge is not whether a certification exists. It's finding the producer who holds the right certification, at the right specification, for your specific market's import requirements.
Different markets require different certification stacks. An EU supplement brand needs something different from a Japanese functional food manufacturer. A UAE distributor needs something different from a US private-label producer. We know the difference — and we source accordingly.
What each certification means — and who needs it
Good Manufacturing Practice
Required in: EU · UK · USA · Japan · Korea · ANZ · UAE/GCC
GMP certification confirms that a manufacturing facility operates to documented quality standards — covering premises, equipment, personnel, production processes, quality control, and record-keeping. For botanical ingredient buyers, it is the baseline certification that most regulated markets require before an ingredient can enter a finished product supply chain.
In India, GMP certification is issued by state licensing authorities under Schedule M of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act for Ayurvedic products, and by FSSAI for food-grade ingredients. Many Indian producers also hold WHO-GMP certification — which carries recognition across most international markets — and cGMP certification aligned with US FDA standards.
ISO 22000 / ISO 9001
Required in: EU · UK · USA · Japan · Korea · ANZ · all regulated markets
ISO 22000 is the international standard for food safety management systems — covering hazard analysis, prerequisite programmes, and documented quality controls across the full supply chain. For botanical ingredient buyers, it provides confidence that a producer's quality systems are independently audited and internationally recognised.
ISO 9001 covers the broader quality management system — process control, customer focus, continuous improvement. Together, ISO 22000 and ISO 9001 form the quality management backbone that most international procurement teams require from new ingredient suppliers.
Food Safety & Standards Authority of India
Required in: All Indian botanical exports · export compliance baseline
FSSAI licensing is the mandatory baseline for any Indian food or botanical ingredient producer intending to export. It confirms that the facility is registered with India's national food safety regulator and operates within India's Food Safety and Standards Act framework — covering hygiene, labelling, additives, and contaminant limits.
For international buyers, FSSAI licensing is a minimum filter — it tells you the producer is operating legally within India's regulatory framework. It does not replace market-specific certifications (GMP, ISO, Organic etc.) but is a foundational compliance indicator that all Ayris Global suppliers hold.
NPOP (India) / NOP (USA) / EU Organic
Required in: EU · UK · USA · ANZ · and wherever organic label claims are made
India's National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) is the country's government-run organic certification framework. NPOP-certified ingredients can be labelled as organic in export markets — and NPOP has mutual recognition agreements with the EU and Switzerland, meaning NPOP-certified produce can be marketed as organic in those markets without additional re-certification.
For the US market, NOP (National Organic Program) certification — or NPOP certification with NOP equivalency through a USDA-accredited certifier — is required to make organic claims on products sold in the United States. For ANZ, the Australian Certified Organic (ACO) standard is typically required, though some buyers accept NPOP with additional documentation.
Halal Certification
Required in: UAE/GCC · Malaysia · Indonesia · most SEA markets · UK · EU (Muslim consumer segments)
Halal certification confirms that an ingredient has been produced, processed, and handled in accordance with Islamic dietary law — covering raw material sourcing, processing aids, cross-contamination controls, and facility practices. For botanical ingredients, Halal certification is primarily relevant to processing and handling (animal-derived processing aids, alcohol use in extraction, facility hygiene protocols).
In the UAE and GCC markets, Halal certification is effectively mandatory for most food and supplement ingredients — required by the Emirates Standards and Metrology Authority (ESMA) and equivalent Gulf Standards Organisation bodies. In Malaysia and Indonesia, Halal certification from a JAKIM or MUI-recognised body respectively is required. The UK and EU are significant and growing Halal consumer markets where certification adds meaningful commercial value.
Kosher Certification
Required in: USA · EU · Israel · select global markets
Kosher certification confirms that an ingredient is produced in accordance with Jewish dietary law — covering ingredient sourcing, processing equipment, facility standards, and rabbinical supervision. For botanical ingredients, Kosher certification is largely relevant to processing controls and the absence of non-Kosher additives or processing aids.
The US is the world's largest Kosher market — and Kosher certification has long carried commercial value beyond the Jewish consumer segment, as it functions as an additional quality signal for a broader health-conscious consumer base. EU, Canadian, and Israeli markets also have meaningful Kosher demand. For premium supplement and wellness brands, Kosher certification can be a meaningful brand differentiator.
The standard documentation package
Every shipment. No exceptions. No chasing.
Certificate of Analysis
Batch-specific analytical results — active content, microbiological limits, heavy metals, pesticide residues, moisture. Issued by accredited third-party laboratory.
Material Safety Data Sheet
Physical and chemical properties, handling precautions, storage conditions, and emergency response information. Required by most regulated market importers.
Phytosanitary Certificate
Issued by India's National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO). Confirms the shipment is free from regulated pests and diseases. Required for botanical imports into most markets.
GMP Certificate
Current GMP certificate from the manufacturing facility — WHO-GMP, cGMP, or Schedule M as applicable to the ingredient and market.
Organic Certificate + TC
For organic-certified ingredients: NPOP/NOP certificate plus Transaction Certificate (TC) per shipment — required to make organic claims in destination markets.
Halal / Kosher Certificate
Where applicable: current Halal or Kosher certificate from the certifying body, with scope of certification confirming the specific ingredient and facility.
Certificate of Origin
Issued by the relevant Indian export authority. Confirms Indian origin — and where applicable, supports preferential duty treatment under applicable trade frameworks.
Technical Data Sheet
Full product specification — botanical name, plant part, extraction method, standardisation parameters, physical characteristics, storage and shelf life. Available prior to sampling.
